Are you a racing fan who is growing tired of watching many dozen of identical looking cars droning around for hours at a time? Nothing looks or sounds different except the sponsor's names?
If you long for variety and cars that were built with a passion not often seen in today's busy, commercial driven society, then your fix might be in vintage sports car racing. If the thought of watching 700+ horsepower monsters thundering around such historic venues as Watkin's Glen or Road America gets your heart pumping a bit faster, then I can promise you it's what you need. There are many sanctioning bodies that put on fantastic car shows that feature vintage sports cars, except at these shows you get to see them run as they were originally intended, not just sitting, propped up over a mirror. Not only that but you are invited to get up close, walk up and really get a look at them, not just peer through a fence or window hoping to get a glance. The drivers are right there and would love nothing more than talking with you about their passion and cars. You can find Can-Am cars in all their big block glory, Formula cars from junior up to F5000 and F1, sedans of every sort, even old Winston cup cars that will bring back memories, and yeah, you're allowed to get close to even those. Even if, or especially if, you didn't get to see these cars race when they were new, you really should take the time to explore the vintage sports car racing scene in your area.
